October 5 2021 Observations. Lunt 8x32 SUNoculars

Post by DeepSolar64 »

17:55 UT. 70F ( 21.1C )

Today I have been under cloudy rainy skies with more in the forecast. Just before 2pm local time I had a short clearing in the clouds and I quickly grabbed my Lunt 8x32 SUNoculars and ran outside. The large Sunspot of AR12882 is really easily visible in the east and I swear if the binoculars were just a bit more powerful or if the spot was just a little bigger I could distinguish the penumbra. I can also see a smaller single spot associated with AR12880 in the NW. I see no other spots on the disc.

It's basic but that's it.

James

A friend of mine thinks I am a bit fanatical on this solar stuff I think. My project and aim is to observe through Solar Cycle 25 as much as possible. All +11- years of it. That means taking every opportunity if possible to collect the data, whether by eye, camera, and whatever instrument best suits the day's needs. And SolarChat with all of you fit in too. And the pros with SDO, GONG, etc.

Maybe he's right. Maybe I am a fanatic... :?

Hi James,
Sometimes binoculars are just what we need so that the day doesn't go to waste for our hobby.
My wife often tells me that I am obsessed, so we are all of the same blood :)

Though the image is small and I have to brace against the side of the house for a steady view, they work. And with absolutely no setup time!

They make a good backup for an obsessed solar observer!
