Sun in Ha, CaK and 'WL' 6th October 2021

Post by Carbon60 »

Quite a surprise this morning with a beautiful blue sky start to the day. I was expecting cloud, which is what our weather reports over the weekend were forecasting. The air was so very clear, but the seeing was below par making close up views something of a challenge. For my WL images I used a Lacerta wedge fitted with a 430nm filter, which provides bright facula, but, more importantly (with safety ND filters removed) it provides very bright images enabling very fast shutter speeds (of the order of 50 micro seconds or less). This helps freeze the image, reducing the impact of turbulence. With Ha (on my 150mm mod) the shutter operates at typically 10-20 milliseconds giving more image blur. Anyhow here are my images:

First up is a Ca II K FD image in mono and colour:

....and the same in Ha (Triple stack):

Here's a closer view of the main active region (AR12882) on my 150mm mod:

...and a prom on the north east limb:

Finally AR12882 at 430 nm:

I thought that was enough for one session and clouds started rolling in anyhow.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.
