Oct. 9th 2021 AR12882 Ha and WL

Post by Astrophil »

Hi All,

Beautiful activity on the sun today. Unfortunately only enough blue sky to grab the little Mak for a quick session. A little sun is better than none.
The Ha images were taken using a Solar Spectrum filter attached to a Questar 3.5". The continuum was with a 540nm filter.

Thanks for the kind comments. It has been quite a while since I posted any images here. During my last outing with the larger scope I twisted my back and have been a little reluctant to lug it out for a while longer at least. The smaller scopes get to see the sun now.

The little Questar is lightweight but has a limit as to the weight of equipment that can be attached and still balance and track. Usually the Quark is used because it’s light but for these images the Solar Spectrum was tested on it. The images were better than the Quark but tracking was iffy at times. It sure would be nice if there was a lighter weight Solar Spectrum filter.

As usual I notice the white light detail first. Nice job!
