Re: New User presentation
Welcome Carlo! I looked at your album on flickr, your photos are great. I was amazed by an old photo of the m42, captured on film and manually guided.

Re: New User presentation
Thx Eric. A life of continuous study and improvement is what makes us feel good and keeps the brain young. At 65 I am studying Astrophysics, although it is difficult and you need a lot of memory to take the exams.
I really think that from this point of view SolarChat can help me a lot to improve and pursue new goals.

Re: New User presentation
Thanks Ivan
adolescence is a beautiful and dreamy time. My dream was to become an astronomer; coming from classical high school, I did not have confidence in my abilities and in the actual possibility of finding a job once I graduated; for which I chose the Faculty of Engineering.
Now as a retiree I went back to my dreams by returning to observe the sky and attending the degree course in Astrophysics. The passion is still despite all that of 18 years

Re: New User presentation
You are very correct Carlo, in that keeping the brain ticking-over from and during your retirement years is definitely the way forward. With little time to get bored, then astronomy in all its' forms is a very useful (and youthful) way ahead for yourself and myself too.
In two-days time at the then age of 75, I also am just going back to my earliest days of looking at anything in the skies above (in the very busy air-space for aircraft above my location) and ultimately also in the space beyond our atmosphere.
So I've since those very early-days been involved in all aspects of military and civil aviation, including flying all over the place in light aircraft too.
Retiring from flying, has allowed me to enhance the astronomical interests with imaging as just part of that.
Possibly one of my last larger projects currently under construction is a second observatory known as the "Mini-Obsy" which is nearing completion before the cold and no doubt wetter-weather intervenes and before the Winter sets-in, here in S.E.England.
Primarily for imaging the Sun and Moon during their low altitudes in the Winter-months, the Mini-Obsy is a short-distance from the Main-Observatory where a better line-of-sight at times is available...
I can't honestly see myself ever just sitting-around watching that oblong-screen with either interesting or rubbish programs, rather than doing the number of things (plus astronomy of one sort or another)...
Best Wishes and Clear Skies
Terry

Re: New User presentation
I agree with your words Terry: at our age it is important to stay active and not stop dreaming of new goals to reach.
Congratulations on the new observatory.
Clear skies.

Welcome to Solarchat!
I have just been admiring your H-alpha album.
Some really beautiful images!
The Dune film showed remarkable and unique story invention.
Well beyond the usual standard of SF films. IMHO.

Re: New User presentation
Thanks Carlo and dreaming is my way of designing (or correcting) my designs, just before actually falling asleep - even.
Usually, I come-up with a better design for the next days work, which has certainly happened last-night for today's work - completed.
So tonight, I will no-doubt do the same for the next/final part of the construction tomorrow, where I have already sourced parts from my store of bits...
Cheers
Terry
