October 11 2021 Observations. WL Only.
Session time is from 14:28 until 15:41 UTC. Intermittent. The skies are nearly overcast with scattered low level clouds with a canopy of high thin persistent clouds above them. The seeing is above average. The temperature at 15:00 UTC is 66F ( 18.8C )
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x and 62.5x ( WL )
Today I got 4 regions in the photosphere. AR12882 shows some changes since yesterday, see my post for then! It's umbra has became more elongated ( N-S ) and pinched in the middle. While I cannot quite see detail in the penumbra the penumbra itself is easy to see. A single dark spot lies NW of the big one. Yesterday there was two. I can see a small number of pores north of the big spot though the SDO HMI continuum 4K picture shows more. I can see a lone spot in the SW quadrant. I can see two patches of faculae, one near the NW limb. SDO HMIc shows a single pore within it that I could not see. Another patch of faculae is visible near the SW limb. Neither I nor SDO can see any pores or spots there. SDO shows a couple of small pores in the far SE quadrant. I could not see those.
The music for today is Cantus, a Norwegian female choir group. They are outstanding. I love their Northern Lights album!

Well it's back to the workweek and it looks like rain again :-(
Blessings:
James

Nice crisp image, James. Over two weeks since I've had good imaging weather up here in Wisconsin.
Thanks for introducing the Norwegian Cantus choir. Have added that album to my Spotify selections.

Jordan,
The image isn't mine but is a reference image by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory in Earth orbit.
You are welcome concerning the Cantus Norwegian choir. They are really good. Very relaxing to listen to.

Re: October 11 2021 Observations. WL Only.
Thanks James. Things are definitely turning on the autumnal side this over here, all the trees starting to turn and shed their leaves.
Our local council (authority?) was round last night spreading rock salt on the roads, which I thought was rather ambitious as temperatures didn't get below about 9c at the lowest...

Thanks for the latest James.
And Mark, that's strange as the news has just said that a shortage of HGV drivers will likely make road-salt delivery difficult ???

Our city authorities also distinguished themselves at the beginning of September, having conducted a training session on cleaning and removing snow But as we say, winter will come unexpectedly anywaymarktownley wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 5:50 am Thanks James. Mark,
The leaves are turning here in the southern Appalachians and starting to fall as well.
Ivan,
Thanks. And their voices are indeed magical!

It's a bit early in the year for salt trucks here. It's happened though but in recent years the winters seem to take a bit longer to get here. Global warming??
