October 13 2021 Observations. WL Only

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is around 16:00 UTC. The skies are mostly cloudy. Seeing is fair. 68F ( 20C )

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( Ha )
AR12882 is still visible easily in the NW quadrant with it's large spot showing an easy penumbra and umbra. The umbra has somewhat of a mushroom shape! I can see a large pore NW of the main spot. SDO HMI continuum imagery shows more. Just to the NW of AR12882 appears to be a new system. I can see 4 spots/pores in it surrounded by faculae.

I can see faculae near the SW limb and near the NE limb. I see no spots or pores in either.

That's 4 regions seen on the photosphere today.

The fine granulation is visible.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Thanks for the report James, it looks like AR12882 will soon be leaving us ;)

James, good report, thank you. For the whole day, the Sun peeped out for about five minutes.

Sounds like you had a half decent view James. Drizzly rain for me all day today...

Hi James,
Whilst AR2882 still remains very active and for the next two days at least may well flare again and even another CME is possible, whilst still visible to Earthlings.

You have mentioned the activity immediately N.W. of AR2882 - which has just been numbered as AR2885 and actually at datum consists of a large number of spots in three groups forming a triangle. We may well see some decent activity within this grouping for the next two days or so.

CLEAR SKIES
Terry

Yep, Terry the SDO could see more in that new system than my wee small refractor could today. Thanks for the verification.

Of course James, the SDO satellite doesn't suffer from the seeing etc., that we on Earth have to put-up with.

But hey, we keep going-on as best we can...
