Holiday Monday - Ha Sun

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi all...

I had a break form the clouds and work on Monday this week (Canadian Thanksgiving), and had a chance top do some imaging before lunch. It was close to two weeks since the last solar session, and I was glad to see that that AR2882 was still going strong and there were several proms and filaments to view as well. The seeing was average at best and the live views on the computer screen seemed to have a high frequency vibration appearance, but the stacked images don't appear to be too bad. The contrast across the mosaics is not the best due to the variable conditions.

The first image from the session is the full disk composite through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha solar scope and the ASI1600MM camera with a 1.3x barlow:

The image below is a longer exposure of the limb showing some of the fainter proms on the eastern limb and the arcs between the brighter proms on the western limb:

The remainder of the images were all captured with the double stack modded Orion EON 130ED OTA fitted with a pair of Lunt DSII etalons and the B1800 blocker. Image capture with the ASI290MM and a 1.6x barlow. First is the most prominent feature, AR2882, and AR2882 nearing the NW limb:

AR2884 was placed along with several other active areas and filaments, which spread across the southern part of the disk:
North-13xOR130-2xDSII.jpg

The final disk image shows a small regions starting to appear on the eastern limb:
West-13xOR130-2xDSII.jpg
West-13xOR130-2xDSII.jpg (637.44 KiB) Viewed 334 times
The final images were of the proms...a few are a bit grainy, but the longer exposures were more influenced by the seeing and some thin cirrus cloud had started to build at this time too:
SE_Proms-13xOR130-2xDSII.jpg
SE_Proms-13xOR130-2xDSII.jpg (800.97 KiB) Viewed 334 times

NW_Proms-13xOR130-2xDSII.jpg
NW_Proms-13xOR130-2xDSII.jpg (1.19 MiB) Viewed 334 times
That was all I managed to capture on Monday, and spent the rest of the day recovering from two Thanksgiving diners, and working on the new observatory (pics to come ;) )
