Thanks Terry, Alexandra and Franco for your kind comment.

Alexandra - it was a very cloudy day. Only managed to take 2 videos, at full aperture on the C11. Glad to have caught something. The photo was taken when the clouds completely covered the sky. Good thing I packed up before the rain started. Hope to try the Solar Spectrum Suna this week, if the weather cooperates.

Hi Alfred,

Excellent resolution and processing!

However, I guess, the etalon is not at the H-a CWL.

In "my" Quark the best tuning position at F/42 is -3 counterclockwise.

Wish you more sunshine days with a good seeing.

Hi Valery,

Thank you for your kind comments and tip.

In terms of processing, on top of ImPPG, I did only some noise reduction in Neat Image followed by level and contrast adjustment. In other words, I did not do much. The D-ERF and the Daystar Quark Chromosphere did all the work.

Today's seeing is much better. Managed to squeeze in all the spots around AR 2887:

My setting for the Quark today is at this setting:

I will try other settings to get the best picture.

Alfred, if this Quark is the one you bought from me, then the position on the photo is wrong. On the photo the tuner is at +3 position. The best position must be just opposite -3.
How to correctly interpret the tuner position: take the Quark and put it's nose down. Let the tuner side face to you. Now the central position is at the top it is 0. If you rotate the tuner clockwise then there are +1, +2,+3,+4 and +5 position. If to rotate the tuner counterclockwise, then there are -1,-2,-3,-4 and -5 position.
For the Quark you received from me, for F/42 cone (like you have in the classic SCTs F/10 + 4.2x magnification by Quark), the best position is -3. For F/30 the best position will be -1 or may be 0.

Hope this helps.

Valery.

Alfreds images looks pretty spot on to me Valery. Maybe the change in dial setting is a result of greater insolation at the lower latitudes Alfred is at compared to you?

Mark, if this given Quark is the one he bought from me, then a correct position is -3, not a +3.

Our summer temperatures are not any lower than in Singapore. That Quark keeps on band from 0C to about +35.

But Alfred has more than one Quark and possibly this one has another scale of settings.

Thank you Valery and Mark for your feedback. I have tried settings for different Quarks. Sometimes I cannot tell the difference between different settings because they can be quite subtle. For this particular Quark which I bought from Valery, I started the imaging session with a "-3" position and left it to "stabilize " for 15 minutes. I wasn't happy with the image at "-3"and then moved to a "+3" setting which I have also used in the past. Like what Mark mentioned, the images at "+3" look quite ok.

Unfortunately we are in the midst of a rainy season and I may have to wait to next week to record & compare the images at different settings. I will share my findings.

Once again, thank you very much for the feedback.

Alfred

To be honest Alfred, other than the live-activity between the two captures, I can't really see any significant difference in the quality, but that is my opinion.

Hi Terry,

Thanks for your feedback. I can't tell the difference in quality too, even though the videos on 26 Oct was recorded in a less turbulent environment. May be in the hands of an expert much more info can be restored with superior post-processing.

Looks like AR2887 is maintaining its role as the power house for flares today. Unfortunately it rained today and I was not able to follow up with it.

I agree Alfred and thanks for your reply which sounds correct.

Hopefully clear skies for you soon and don't forget to keep any eye/image on the newbie AR2891 in the N.E. for some explosive action.

Usually I don't add too much contrast adjustment to my images. I thought I should at least give it a try and get your comment about increasing the contrast:

Image Two, my traditional processing:

Can you give me your feedback which is more pleasing to your eyes?

Thanks.

Thanks Alfred for your two for comparisons, where I personally prefer the first/higher contrasted one, where the fine-detail stands-out better.

Thank you, Terry. It looks more appealing and is my preference too. I am just not too sure if I am over sharpening the features to the point that it does not reflect the actual features.
