For a change, the sky today actually was clear from mid morning well into the late afternoon. The seeing was tolerable at the start but became worse later in the day. I revived my Explore Scientific AR152 for some work and coupled it with a full aperture ERF + 35nm H alpha filter + 3X or 4X telecentric feeding into a Quark Combo and ASI290. Unlike my fairly compact LS152 even when double stacked, the lower end attachments on this scope left me with only about 15 cm from the ground. In all, this set up produced some good results.
The AVX mount was misbehaving in that when I made continuous small corrections in declination, it sometimes seemed to save up these corrections and apply them all at once after about 800 frames. I opened up the dec housing and adjusted the play between the driving motor gear and the driven dec gear and tested the movement. It seemed fine but a real world test will tell me if the problem was actually a backlash problem. I had already tried resetting the paddle and upgraded the firmware with no improvement.
Anyway, here are the results from this day's session.
