AR2886, AR2887, AR2888 High Res | HA, CaK, WL | Oct 25th 2021

Post by MalVeauX »

Heya,

We went from a rather quiet disc with AR2886 just transiting without much activity in its region, then AR2887 came along, blasting, and whatever is trailing it is blasting even more! The eastern limb exploded with a flare, and lots of big surging proms blasted off, perhaps a CME with quite a good chunk of chromosphere going with it. I saw it visually and grabbed a little data on it. Somewhere between 16:00 and 17:00 Eastern time (Florida). Then the sun was too low to see anymore for me over the obs walls. Seeing was pretty good for a late day in my fall, it hovered an arc-second or so. I graphed it to share. I was able to get some fairly high res data on AR2887 and the surrounding area in this seeing, but it didn't last, it quickly fell off the lower the sun got and soon it was gone, so my CaK suffered significantly compared to the rest. Still great to see such activity at that limb!

Man, lots of post CME-loops on the eastern limb! I hope you guys on the other side of the globe get to see this! We're missing the best part of the show here! :(

Marty,
I knew when I saw that surge prom earlier on the NE limb that they were something there. I noticed an alert on SpaceWeatherLive on my phone at 02:46 UTC indicating an M1.3 class flare. I have yet to see post-flare loops.

The flares are blasting off a lot of material, that's for sure!

Blessings,
James
