NEW - for OLD LS35T-Ha scope in use today 28-10-2021

Post by EGRAY_OBSERVATORY »

SOLARCHAT's "Commercial Solar Filters/Cameras/Hardware" page contains what might be an interesting article today/28-10-2021, on this now fairly- rare and old-ish excellent little but long Solarscope of 2009 and also reviewed by our own Stephen Ramsden then... Thanks to Stephen & Ed.

I wish James, but no, this was a delight to see and use the 35 at my friends on Thursday, especially for proms.

If one came-up for sale, I would probably be very interested, as Alexandra, Mark T. and Pedro have said, for a grab and go is possibly the best S.scope for a quick look at what's going on.

It would also be ideal for the new mini-obsy - compared to opening the main-obsy in -between the pesky clouds to try and get a quick glimpse and imaging.

As Alexandra says " I think every solar observer should have a basic grab and go scope in their collection in order to look at the Sun in a space of 10 minutes. If it wasn't raining yesterday "

Mark T., said " I agree, a grab and go solar scope is a must! "

And Pedro said " I was able to use one and it is a great grab & go solar scope. "

Might be old, but simplicity and ease of use are definitely a must - if available and possible..
Maybe the new-ish Lunt 40 is the next best thing, but keeping things simple in the Ha case is a way forward.

I use the etalon from the Lunt LS 35 together with my 60 mm scope or as DS with the Lunt 60mm front etalon.

My two Frankenscopes (DS 150mm refractor and 250mm RC) are made using Lunt 35 etalons. :)

That's very interesting Maurits and Stu, so from an old to modern-day usage for the 35, is good news and speaks of the quality of that Etalon.

Thanks for you inputs and I want one of those 35's - now more than ever, as might even be able to triple-stack to my gear... Whoopee !!

Cheers
Terry

I would love to have a Lunt 35, 40 or 50. Any of these would be grab and go portable. I would especially love a Coronado CaK PST.

Best wishes on those ideas James, so start saving those pennies or bucks - whichever.

Remember though, the CaK versions are primarily for imaging only, as little can be seen by many/most users...

Terry,
On CaK I can use the monitor and camera to do visual. My eye cannot directly see CaK but the camera can! And then of course there is imaging it.

It would be nice if Orion brought back CaK to Coronado.
