Incredible animation, you got the flare from the start.
Thanks for sharing, what setup did you use?

Re: AR 2887 X1 Flare movie
Hi Eric,
Used TS 102ED + Quark prom + ZWO ASI 174MM
Sheer luck that I caught it, as I was aiming for 1 hour on AR2891 with expectations but not much activity there, so moved right in time to 2887..

Awesome! I often move around the disk in between captures just to check on stuff going on elsewhere, you must have been psychic!

Re: AR 2887 X1 Flare movie
Thanks all and indeed my eyes started popping out when I saw it happening...
For the ones who missed it and would like to see "like" real time, I have made an MP4 of 41 avi's which lasting around 9 mins, with 30 secs intervals logically (which not really disturbing).. The file has 880 mb size.
Edit:
Is it possible to add as attchment such big file in posts ? looks like not..
Anyway, it seems my skill to add files here turns out not to be that good...

Re: AR 2887 X1 Flare movie
Thanks for an amazing animation of this big event.
Hopefully one of the moderators or somebody else, will advise you of the best methods of getting links to a SolarChat post using other web-sites,
which I don't know how to..
SolarChat itself recommends that individual images should be in JPEG format and not to exceed 2-Mbytes per image - due to server storage space.

Superb animation. Thanks for sharing.
It's really interesting to see the explosive collapse of the main filament and then the formation of the arcade of magnetic arches. Solar dynamics in action.
Stu.

Re: AR 2887 X1 Flare movie
WOW!!! what amazing timing!! you should play the lottery
I think the only way to run the movie displayed in the forum is to make a gif file for the web. Most folks here upload to Flickr and then link the original and it plays in the post. Or another hosting site which you can link from. The problem with Astrobin is that it only displays thumbnails which is sad.
Although, I have just looked at Stephane's post and he is running a gif file straight downloaded to the forum, so that works
