Main ARs in WL 30th October 2021

Post by Carbon60 »

A gap in the appalling weather this afternoon gave me a few moments to capture some WL images of the two main active regions. I'd just arrived back from a few days away attending a wedding and was hoping this would be the case as I made my way up the M6 motorway through showers and bad traffic. As soon as I got set up on my driveway a huge black cloud covered the Sun and I feared the worst. Thankfully it passed after around 10 minutes and the blue gap gave me the few minutes I needed for these shots. It was a close call, though, as within minutes of packing up there was a huge cloudburst and really heavy rain. I was so lucky not to get myself or my equipment soaked!!

Equipment:
125mm/f7.8 Tecnosky refractor
2.5x and 5x PM
Basler acA 2440-75 um camera
Lacerta Wedge with 430nm filter

Process flow:
Genika Astro image capture (SER files)
AS!3 stacking
ImPPG Deconvolution/Sharpening
Pixinsight finessing

Here are the results.....

Pretty tame compared with the excellent images on SolarChat in Ha of the recent flare activity, but I'll take what I can get :)

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

These are terrific Stuart :bow :hamster: the bright rings are really pronounced in these regions. We had bad rain this morning then by 11:30 it cleared for beautiful blue sky and clouds. Been a lovely day so far. If you get a spike on the magnetometer tonight make sure you give me a text (unless it is after midnight )

Many thanks Alexandra. Will do…I’m keeping an eye on the screen to see if things are beginning to show signs of the CME having arrived. Nothing yet….

Nicely crisp, Stu. Enjoyed the narrative. I tried to beat incoming clouds this morning, but unfortunately lost the race.

Very nice Stu.
I must try to do more WL.
Glad you missed the rain, I did not but the kit looked a bit dusty and maybe needed the rinse.
