Monday evening flares!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Thanks to the SpaceWeatherLive app on my phone I get alerts when the sun bursts forth flares. I first got an alert around 22:00 UT and checked SWL and found a C class flare in progress. Checking my SDO viewer app I find that the SDO images confirm this. It's located in AR12887 in the SW quadrant of the solar disc. Another image just under an hour later reveals a post-flare loop! A while later around 02:50 UT I get another alert. This one is an M Class flare in AR12891! GONG Learmonth shows this one splendidly in Ha.

I observed the Sun from work! Virtually using the GOES, SDO and GONG!!

Here's the data and images.

Things have really been " flaring " up lately!!

Terry, Even though UT time has it on Tuesday morning it happened before midnight in my local time zone so I listed in my records as on Monday late. Same flare though. Thanks for the additional GIF SDO animation.

Thanks for that James and i guess another example of everybody just using one time zone for absolutely everything.
Here it now so much easier (for six-months) and both my new mini-obsy clocks are now showing just the one time as "Z"...

Cheers
Terry

Thanks for the heads up James!

At that point on the limb I would expect at best a glancing blow, but will see what the effects are.

So true Terry. In ways I like the idea of the UTC being used instead of the time zone system, but I would have trouble with the time not lining up with the day as one sees it in their part of the world. Everything has it's advantages and disadvantages I guess.
