November 8 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 16:30 to 17:00 UTC. The skies are clear and seeing is average/fair. The temperature is 64F ( 17.7C )

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
I can see three active regions in the Ha chromosphere today. AR12893 in the NW shows a spot amid a scattered plage. AR12894 in the SE shows a spot with it's plage NE of it. I can see a fine filament east of the spot. I can also see a filament NW of the spot and another SW of it. AR12895 in the NE shows an easy plage with a couple of spots within it.

Filaments are very few on the disc today. Outside of the very few aforementioned ones I can see one in the far west and there is another at the NW limb that may be a part of a prominence located there.

There are some nice prominences visible today. The NE limb has two. The southernmost one is a long " burning fire " showing a fair amount of detail within. A smaller one lies north of it. Three are seen on the NW limb. The smaller southern one is the brightest. The SW limb also has three nice ones with the southernmost one being a " flame prom " showing some detail. The GONG images show these well.

The mottles are easily seen across the disc today.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see 4 active regions on the WL photosphere today. AR12893 in the NW shows a single spot bearing a penumbra. The umbra is divided into three visible sections. NW of AR12893 at the limb I can see a patch of faculae. AR12894 in the SE shows a single spot bearing a penumbra around it's irregular shaped umbra. I can see two pores east of the spot. I can see some faculae to the system east of the spot. AR12895 in the NE shows two spots. I can see 4 additional pores in the system. Faculae surround them. Towards the end of the session I could with difficulty see some faculae close to the SW limb in addition to the 4 areas observed already.

The fine granulation is visible but not overly apparent.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Thanks for the report James, it sounds like there is quite a variety of action on offer today, from proms to spots and faculae :hamster:

Thank you James for your latest.

For AR2895, I understand that with opposing polarities in the group, and judging by the latest imagery of the two large spots, that a flare and/or CME is quite likely...

Cheers
Terry
