AR12894 in Ha on 11th November 2021

Post by Carbon60 »

I wasn't expecting much from this morning, given our weather reports, so I was surprised to see blue sky developing mid morning, offering me an opportunity to capture some rays. Seizing the opportunity, I set up my 150mm Ha scope and fired off a 45 second burst to capture AR12894 in all its glory. That was the start and end of my session. I don't think I've seen a promising blue sky turn grey quite so quickly in my life. Literally within 1 second of the SER file terminating I could see clouds scooting through my field of view and then it was really over, with the Sun now instantly obscured with cloud and the remaining sky too. Quite incredible.

Anyhow, here's the singular image from the session, produced here in mono and colour:

This being the case, I'll take it any day. I'd rather have a short imaging session than nothing at all.

BTW, this shows the seeing conditions this morning

Thanks for looking.

Hi Stu

That's a nice contrasty image you've posted. The video of your seeing conditions is what I see in my sky most of the time.
I've also experienced "sudden cloud cover" including at least two occasions when I went right from setting up to throwing a protective cover over my setup and then eventually having to dismantling everything and leaving just the mount and tripod under a cover. The consolation is that there will be many more opportunities for imaging with a more active sun.

You get the gold star for bravery  that's a fabulous image Stuart, but I do like the phase of clouds being attracted to telescopes like flies to poop

We had thick fog all morning which has turned to grey skies instead, you were very lucky :hamster: :bow

I agree with Terry. I love the near Ha red!

A very nice capture Stu, especially with the fleeting gap and less than ideal conditions. Looks like rain today...

Good results, Stue!

And the seeing is not as poor as people think.

Thanks, Valery.

You're right about the seeing. Not the worst seeing, but not the best either.

I've reworked the image.

Beautiful high-res work, Stu!

I absolutely love your re-processed image where you've toned back the contrast a bit.

Best regards,
Arne
