November 12 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 16:14 to 17:00 UTC. The skies are clear with less than fair seeing. The temperature is 56F ( 13.3C )

Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS. 32x and 44.5x ( Ha )
I can see three active areas on the Ha solar disc today. AR12894 now in the SW quadrant shows two spots with a plage winding between them. A thin curved filament is easily seen there. I also see a filament west of the group and two more SE of it. AR12895 at the CLM in the north shows a single spot with difficulty among plage. A thin winding filament is seen NE of it. I can see three easy filaments further NE not far off the limb. There's also a couple of filaments in the NW. I can also see a small plage just north of the equator in the NW quadrant.

In double-stack I notice only a single prominence. A small double one on the NW limb.

The mottles are visible without difficulty across the solar disc.

Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge and 540nm Baader filter. 55x. ( WL )
AR12894 in the SW shows a sizeable twin-umbra spot with penumbra. SW of the spot I see two pores. Another elongated spot is located SE of the large one. This makes 4 visible in AR12894. AR12895 shows itself as only a small spot with a barely visible pore east of it. I can see the spot of AR12893 almost at the western limb. A small patch of faculae is located east of it. SDO continuum shows a tiny pore there that I cannot see.

The granulation is weakly visible.

Today's session music is Nightnoise, Shadow of Time album.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Hi James. Thanks for the report. Saturday morning here and grey and drizzly, not cold though. Looks to be set for a week or 2 now...

I'm very much looking forward to better weather and being able to see the sun again, especially with the daily activity we're now getting. I got told off last night playing music - 'turn that blues sh!t off'' said Mrs T

At least you got tome "blue" sky James, compared to Mark not being able to enjoy "blue" music, without "blue" language overheard.

Thanks for the report, James. It's nice that it's sunny here. We have snow fell and melted. Rain, snow and clouds - all that can be observed with us for now :)

Thanks for the lovely update James :hamster: I see you have some wonderful autumn colour in your garden. Our trees are just looking glorious at the moment and today I was raking lots of leaves from the lawn. It looks like you have quite a job there yourself :)

 I get told that too, Mark, when I play opera-style classical music. My wife can't stand it!! And hey, I like blues!!

Alexandra,
The colors were decent this year. They are about gone now. Yep I have got a lot to do tomorrow. First solar then raking, leaf blowing and mowing my yard/garden. Sunny weather is forecast here tomorrow. Good luck on your weather.

Maurits,
I think Coronado has always had the most beautiful telescopes with their gold/brass tubes. This is especially evident on their SolarMax III series and they lack the less than pretty helical focusers and have better two-speed rack and pinion ones. Coronado may not have the best Ha scopes out there but they are pretty to look at as well as look through!
