Everyone. Check this out. Just look at the shock wave the flare sends across the Sun! Can a phenomenon like this be captured but an amateur camera in hydrogen-alpha? It would have to be in an animation of course.
Isn't this phenomenon known as a Moreton Wave?

That is a cool video James. No reason why an amateur couldn't do a Ha or CaK capture of something like this...

You are correct about the Moreton Wave. It was discussed on Cloudy Nights as well, quite the event a ton of us missed!

Thanks James for the interesting link showing the animated detail of the SDO images for the dates.
The attached images show stills of the very-active Sun then.

Yep!! Thomas Ashcraft used to image Moreton waves in Halpha. He caught quite a few last cycle. You have to do full disc timelapses every day to catch the rare event.

Thanks for the input and replies everyone. It truly IS a beautiful video.
Thanks Terry for the additional images and Ashecraft does wonderful work and easily picked up the Moreton Waves in his Ha animations. Alexandra, I'll attach the link of the best one from the site you sent me. This would make a good challenge but it may take longer than a month to forfill. Maybe 6 months or longer. It depends on solar activity, luck and timing. " The Solar Tsunami Challenge " !!
