Sun FD in H-Alpha 12th of November 2021
Dear friends,
Only managed to image in H-Alpha during the short period from the Sun cleared some local obstacles to the clouds moved in. No time for flats either so had to reuse the flats from last session.
Solar altitude 6,5 degrees.
FD image in H-Alpha using a Coronado 60mm/BF15 w/Beloptik ITF, stopped down to 50mm, Baader 35nm H-Alpha and ASI 178mm mounted on a SkyWatcher SolarQuest. Sun FD in H-Alpha 12th of November 2021

Incredible 6.5 degrees and such a great disk! Arne, what was the temperature at the time of filming?

Arne:
Super shots, specially when taken at that solar altitude.
Best wishes.

That' s a beauty!! that's a very low angle, it is a pain at this time of the year when trying to drive, the Sun is always in your eyes (if it is out that is).

Re: Sun FD in H-Alpha 12th of November 2021
Thank you so much Ivan, Eric, Maurits, Alexandra and Stu for your kind comments!
Ivan: The temperature was a pleasant 2 degrees C.
Eric: I was hoping to image the Sun closer to noon for a slightly higher solar altitude, but in came the clouds :-(
Alexandra: Yes, a low Sun can be challenging when driving. A clean front window is an absolute must!
Stu: Your images, along with others on this forum, has been of great inspiration!
Best regards,
Arne

And thanks for the answer, we now have the same temperature, but I'm afraid to take my Lunt out into the street, I'm afraid that the cold and moisture can harm it. After the session, it somehow needs to be specially stored, do you need any actions? I mean silica gel or something else?

The SPoD was a nice suprise!
When it above freezing I usually just put the scope in the living-room, but when it's sub-zero I usually wrap the scope in some isolating material (preferably in an airtight wrapping) before bringing it inside and let it warm up very slowly. After it has reached indoor temperature I unwrap it to let it breath.
Due to the low Sun I don't get to use the solarscopes that much during wintertime.
Best regards,
Arne
