November 13 2021 Observations. f-hole filament!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 15:30 until 16:15 UTC. The skies are clear with average to just below average seeing. The temperature is 46F ( 7.7C ). Breezy.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
I can see three active regions on the solar disc today. AR12894 is visible in the SW with it's spot, plage and two filaments, one to the SE and one to the SW. AR12895 is visible in the NW, now across the LCM as a visible plage. A easy filament is located just NE of it. GONG CT shows another plage ( Small ) just SW of AR12895 with a small filament. I did not notice them at all. I however did see a small plage near the western limb just north of the equator.

Outside of the aforementioned filaments I saw a number of others on the disc. One near the SW limb and another south-central. I see three in the NE quadrant. Two are dark and easy. One of these reminds me of the f-hole on a violin! I see a close double filament in the NW.

There is not much prominence activity today. Just small ones around the disc. I see nothing significant.

The mottles show their usual visibility.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
Like in Ha I see three active regions in WL. AR12894 in the SW is visible as a double-umbra spot and a pore. The spot has a penumbra surrounding the " snake eyes " umbra. The pore is located just to the SE of the spot. I can see nothing but a single large pore to AR12895. I can see a small bright facula near the western limb. SDO shows a tiny embedded pore which I could not see.

The granulation is visible but soft.

Goodnight and Good Day everyone.

Blessings:

James

Good report for Saturday James, and the resemblance of the filament to the violin f hole really stands out.

I didn't manage to get out to the scope yesterday, just a brief sunny break in the late morning and then back to cloud. Awoke to the first snow on the ground here this morning too...not much but it is to be expected ;)

The filament looks like an f hole turned in reverse, at least in the GONG image. In the scope it would be flipped left-right and I didn’t record it’s orientation. 😐

Great record, James, I liked the violin comparison. And there are quite a lot of filaments, they make the landscape not so boring.
