November 14 2021 WL observations

Post by davhei »

80 mm f6 apo with KG3 UV/IR cut, Lunt wedge and baader continuum filter x34/x80 (WL)

Set up this morning at 0830 UT, as soon as I saw the sun clear the rooftops, at barely nine degrees altitude. Have never observed the sun at such a low altitude before and didn’t expect much. To my surprise the view was as sharp as I recall from previous observations and very enjoyable.

Noted AR12894 visible as double umbra with surrounding penumbra. Granulation effects clearly visible but no pores that I could make out and no faculae.

Happy to have gotten a quick session in, look forward to the next one.

That’s a very nice white light visual observation, especially considering that you observed the Sun so low in the sky. Congratulations!! I hope to go out shortly to observe as well.

Thanks

Thanks! Cloud in the forecast for many days now, I had best make good use of what little clear skies I get.

I'm so glad you got a view and could see so much detail :hamster: it was clear for me this morning but went cloudy immediately the Sun came into the viewing area :(
