My new solar configuration

Post by Arrakis97 »

Happy Sunday everyone.
Yesterday after a long period of rain I was finally able to see the first light of my new solar configuration:

Optics : TEC 140 APO (used optic)
Filter : Baader Planetarium D-ERF 160 mm
Filter H alfa : Daystar Quark Cromosphere
Mount : Ioptron CEM70G & Ioptron TriPier;
Camera : ZWO ASI 174 MM;

Despite a bit of haze and an annoying breeze as well as the very low sun, the first result that I am attaching satisfied me. It is usually said that with suboptimal conditions the advantage of a high aperture is lost; instead the recovery is much better than what I have so far made in the middle of summer in optimal conditions with my 80/480 with the same H alpha filter.
This gives me hope for even better performance in optimal sky conditions and after some practice; I have however provided for frontal diaphragms on the cell to reduce the opening to 120 and 100 mm. The final goal, but in any case over time, remains the transition to a higher performance filter such as Quantum or Solar Spectrum.
I enclose the first shot and a photo of the configuration on the terrace of the house (note the very poor sky conditions).

It remains to settle the problem of transport in a protected box that I think I can solve with a dolly. In this regard, do you know any valid product for a configuration like mine which has a weight of about 50 - 60 kg max?
Thanks from now on for any suggestions on the future choice of the new H alpha filter and Dolly.

Wow!! fabulous Carlos, did you use the full 140mm aperture?

Also, you can attach your photo in the post by copying the BBcode into the forum box

Thx a lot Alexandra :D

Shooting is at full aperture; I bought the 160 mm D-ERF in order to take advantage of the full aperture of the TEC140, keeping the possibility of diaphragm at 120 and 100 mm.
Thanks for the suggestion regarding the BBcode of the photos, I will try to study how to do it

Hi Mark :)
Sorry for my bad English, but I’m not sure to correct understand ur message.
I bought the Tecnosky 80/480 with a nice dedicated top case and it will surely stay in this case for a long time as I will be intent on optimizing shooting with the TEC 140.
These days I also bought Daystar's 0.3 x focal reducer to do full-disc solar shots with the Tecnosky 80 mm. I therefore think that the Tecnosky will remain in service for this use, perhaps in parallel with the TEC 140 and on a more robust mount. Please let me know that your message was addressed on this topic or not.
Thanks, clear sky
Carlo

Thanks for your tip Warren; I have examined the various proposals of the site and it seems to me robust and functional; I have only one doubt: the support feet have a diameter perhaps a little small which I fear may cause instability; have you had the opportunity to personally test these dollies?
