SODIUM and WL captures 16-11-2021
For the first somewhat-decent session from the new mini-observatory today, the Sun actually played fair, but the seeing was some of the worst I have ever known, as was so bad that even focusing was extremely difficult.
Taking various stacks - would only assist to a small-extent in improving the results...
But at least the start of using the Sodium Quark in the new location was somewhat successful on AR2896, which was the easiest and best AR of the three available today.
WL imaging was also trialled with similar results as above-mentioned.
The scope being used is the first of my two 80mm ones, as the Orion ED80T-CF (carbon-fibre tube), which is nowhere near as good as my other SkyWatcher 80ED Triplet in the Main Observatory, but at least did the bizz today.
The mount for this observatory is the venerable Vixen GP-DX with it's fabulous SkySensor 2000-PC controller, which unlike those small HBX's is so large as to be a joy and easy to use. (I even have a second identical GP-DX and SS-2K-PC for portable use)...
Needless to say, Barlebach is the world-renown bench-mark and name for the finest tripods and my one is dedicated to be used in the new observatory as the Barlebach "Mulda" version..
So to cap, these captures were taken with extreme-atmospheric turbulence, so as soon as another session is available, hopefully some better images to follow...
Thanks for looking
Terry

Terry,
Just for comparison, I got a Sodium D1 image (while setting for the Helium D3) using the Mini SHG. (31 Oct 2021)

Re: SODIUM and WL captures 16-11-2021
Thanks Ken and James has also just been talking about Helium image, so looking into that and who knows, maybe I might even have five-lines of light.. I have previously from the main observatory taken far better Sodium etc., images, so I know weather permitting, more-better to come..
Also thanks to Andrew for looking..

Terry,
The first sodium image looks a bit outta focus but seeing can make that difficult. I often have trouble focusing even visually in poor seeing. Nice images though and nice equipment!
Ken,
Those SHGs have enormous potential with their multi-bandwidth capability!

Re: SODIUM and WL captures 16-11-2021
Thanks Mark, James and Franco.
The extreme turbulence James would not only make focusing very difficult, but even the stacked images would not resolve due to the amount of movement, which was seen where even the date/time stamping on the AVI's were completely smudged out and unreadable...
Today the seeing with the same gear was remarkably better than yesterday albeit still not perfect.
Haven't had a chance to process and post anything yet, as the 2nd useful part of the mini-obsy is for planetary and Lunar imaging - which at last this evening, the sky stayed clear for Jupiter, but the Moon was too-high for imaging - this time...
I can even sit-down whilst looking through the scope visually for ages - which is all part of the original idea for comfort in the cold-weather...!!

That's a great start Terry winter seeing conditions are generally pretty poor, but if you can sit in the warm and watch who cares

Re: SODIUM and WL captures 16-11-2021
Thanks Stu and Alexandra and yes indeed when one gets into the age-group where cold is a no-no, then when those youngers are quite happy to stand in the cold, I am more than happy to walk the shorter distance to a facility which keeps me happy and warm.
Two sessions yesterday for both the Sun-light and night use, so must be doing something right..
And if I remember correctly Stu, it was yourself that mentioned about the fan-heater risk, so thanks for that as a new mini oil-filled radiator is now installed with both thermostat and over-heat safety cut-out and does the bizz.
CLEAR SKIES today again here, so looking at the forecast charts, even Mark might get some clearings this weekend. I did say might...
But its' gonna turn much colder than the current temps..

Hi Terry,
A good start, low Sun and poor visibility are doing their job, but that will change. I'm glad that you and the other members keep filming and watching. I retired until spring.

Re: SODIUM and WL captures 16-11-2021
Ivan,
The version of the SHG I use - "MiniSHG" is not 3D printed but assembled from standard "bits and pieces".
I do use the Shelyak 2nd gen optics and the Jeulin 10 micron slit plate.

Re: SODIUM and WL captures 16-11-2021
Thanks you Ivan, Eric and Ken for your additional set-up image for Ivan.
Ken, unfortunately my mini-observatory is a tad too small for a similar set-up as your excellent example shown.
I need more time and better weather to improve both WL and Sodium from the mini-obsy and maybe later Ha & CaK too...
Ivan I have already retired (as too busy to work in any case)
Cheers

Re: SODIUM and WL captures 16-11-2021 UPDATED SODIUM CAPTURES
Hi Ken and James etc., these are some of the Sodium Quark captures just after Mark sent it to me.
Taken from the main-observatory using the new SkyWatcher 80ED Triplet, they certainly show what this Quark is capable of.
It is currently set-up in the mini-observatory - awaiting some decent weather - hopefully...
Enjoy

Terry...
Nice to see the pics of the new setup...anything to improve the odds of getting out and also improving comfort are a bonus!
Too bad the seeing wasn't helping your imaging, but still got some details.
