CaK filaments/ filaprom from 20th Nov 2021
My usual DIY CaK filter has a bandwidth of 1A just to the blue side of the CaK CWL.
The images today are as usual - reasonable seeing, spots visible etc. A MiniSHG CaK image has a bandwidth around 0.2A ( ) and can be placed exactly on the CaK CWL. The MiniSHG shows the extensive wispy filaments (around 7 o'clock) and a filaprom (around 1 o'clock)
On this occasion the MiniSHG came out best!!!
A couple of close up CaK DIY filter images: I'd be interested to see some other CaK images from the Lunt filter for comparison.

WoW, that SHG does really well. I have seen prominences before in Calcium II K images but I don't ever recall seeing filaments. Nice work!!

These are really excellent images Ken and of course you are at the best-end of the Solar-viewing year, but superb images showing so much detail.
I would lend you my Lunt CaK filter, but you are a tad too far away and up here the Sun is slipping lower and closer to the horizon for me to get a decent comparison to you via S.C. (which would be much cheaper than air-travel etc.).
Thanks for sharing
Terry

I just wish I had a CaK filter to begin with. I would certainly image with it from time to time but I would use it visually with a monitor, of course.

Hi
Great image with the miniSHG.
Eds Sills is giing one away in the UK, as I recall being told if anyone is interested, big project.
Cheers. Andrew.

Ken, here is a Cak image taken with my Lunt module on the 19th. there was a lot of filament activity on that day that I captured in Ha, they were not visible in Cak.
Your mini SHG is getting amazing results ,well done
Martin.

Very nice images Ken, but particularly with the mini SHG.

Great to see your miniSHG is showing filaments in CaK.

Superb SHG results, Ken. It just shows what we're missing with regular CaK filters.

Re: CaK filaments/ filaprom from 20th Nov 2021
Thanks everyone, appreciate SPOD!!!!
(I think this may be the first time a SHG image has made SPOD. Could be a mile stone and turning point for the acceptance of a "MiniSHG" as a quality solar imaging tool.)
It's good but it's spoiled by the parasitic light - looks like viewing through a veil....
I thought about adding a Blue (or maybe a Baader UV Venus filter) but the cropped bandwidth for the SER is only 150 pixel or so (150 x 0.065= 10 A), don't know. Another challenge to be overcome.
Once again many thanks!!!
Onwards and Upwards.
Terry/ Martin/ Stu/ Jordan
As mentioned above, the MiniSHG CaK image has a bandwidth around <0.2A and can be placed exactly on the CaK CWL. I think this is what's needed to show the Ca filaments.
I'll try to establish a "working" wavelength this "project" - I already know it's less than 1A....

Thanks again Ken and this is a very interesting subject and your SHG certainly does an excellent job of showing the filaments in the CaK region.
