November 19 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 16:15 to 17:00 UTC. Clear skies with poor seeing. The temperature is 46F ( 7.7C )

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
Today I notice only two active regions on the disc. AR12896 is in the SE nearing the Central Longitudinal Meridian. I had to look closely to see it at all. It's just a mere ruffled disturbance in the chromosphere. I see no real plage at all and never could see the spot. If I would have not known exactly where to look I would have overlooked it completely. AR12897 in the NE is easier due to it's visible plage. I never could see it's spot either. Seeing maybe? The spots are fairly small.

I see four filaments on the Ha disc. Two in the SE with the northernmost one being the S shaped snake prom I saw yesterday. I also see an easy one near the CLM in the NE and another one in the NW quad.

I can see a bright easy but fairly small prom on the NW limb and a set of " bush " proms on the SW limb. I can also see a few proms on the eastern limb as well but they are faint in double-stack.

The mottles are visible but a bit soft in the poor seeing.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
Both AR12896 and AR12897 show up only as small spots. Though the SDO images indicate they do have penumbrae I cannot see them due to the spots small size and poor seeing conditions. I see no other details on the disc. No faculae and the solar granulation is barely detectable at all.

Carpe Noctem!

Have a good weekend.

James

Thanks vm James for the latest.
I might as well go to sleep, as been up all night looking-up some info and wanted to complete a task early and hopefully catch some Sun, but no chance.
So the grass needs a final cut of the year and then kip..

Great description, James, the sun seems to be taking a short break right now.

I raked leaves 🍁 and cut grass last weekend. There’s so many more leaves 🍂 fell since that I can’t tell I did anything. I have plans to get out there tomorrow to do them again. 😞

Thanks for the great report James, I have my fingers crossed for tomorrow it will be clear. We have been raking leaves too, every Saturday for a few weeks now and I am sure for another few weeks ahead. The job is never done as more fall every minute.

It’s all a part of autumn 🍂 I guess. It and the low sun.
