CaK filaments - MiniSHG 22 Nov2021

Post by Merlin66 »

Trying to suppress the parasitic light (using a 80a filter which was available) not too much success, but the SHG image cleaned up well and shows the filaments clearly.
I took a couple of images with the DIY CaK filter (Vixen 90/1000) for comparison - no ( easy) filaments visible, maybe a shadow - what do you think??!
Enjoy.

There are some streaks in the south with a close look in the DIY filter images that may be a glimpse of the filaments. It's hard to say for sure. The SHG picks them up with ease!!

Yes, I can just about see hints of where the filaments would be in the DIY filter, the SHG is superb :bow :hamster:

I was looking at Eric's version, he can get superb proms but again the filament only shows a hint when you know where to look.

Really excellent Ken, the SHG certainly shows the filaments well, with the filter, maybe there is a suggestion of the shadow. Please keep them coming!

The comparison helps understand to issue/ problem with CaK filaments.
I've tried to summarise what I've found:
