SODIUM CAPTURE AR2896-97 22-11-2021
With perhaps the best November weather here today in S.E.England, but of course with the low-down Sun, inevitably taking this image through much more Earth-atmosphere, could well have an affect on Sodium imaging quality.
Also the use of the Orion ED80T-CF telescope which itself has a load of grot on the inside of the objective, might also add to the lower quality than has been taken with the Sodium Quark though the SkyWatcher 80ED Triplet around 3-months ago. I guess I will have to try out the SW scope and take if off of the Tri-scope assembly in the main-obsy.
If anyone knows of a way of removing the objective of the Orion ED80T-CF for a thorough clean and inspection of why the grot (probably from the inside of the Carbon Fibre tube) is the cause. I do know that painting Carbon Fibre is a specialist trade method...
No point in talking to Orion, as they should have already replied about this and other snags to that new-acquisition way back in 2017.
Besides Orion have got Meade to sort-out (by an inferior company !)...
Anyways Enjoy
Terry

Thanks Ivan and yes perhaps with larger spots, that plage would also be better shown.
Thanks Alan for looking.

Agreed with that Mark and thanks - but still more work to do to improve...

Nice sodium images, Terry. Hope you solve the grot in your scope issue.

Re: SODIUM CAPTURE AR2896-97 22-11-2021
Thanks Franco and that scope has already been on the clean-bench to attempt to remove the objective, but the extendable due-shield seems to block further attempts, probably because the carbon-fibre tube is glued and un-removable from the main-body of the scope.
No excuses from the manufacturer could be considered reasonable - as to be able to simply remove the objective lens for servicing, certainly can never be prevented for any reason. Carbon-fibre has it's own different methods of spray-painting and although the outside of the scopes-tube is well done, the inside of the tube would be more problematic for preparation and painting. Therefore, I suspect that it was not done properly, resulting in debris coming-loose from within the tube or its' mounting area to the main-body of the scope.
No way has debris come into the scope through any open EP or camera location...
Besides, other issues with the poor/bad designs have also shown themselves from new.
Should have returned the unit to the supplier, but no return advice from the supplier or the manufacturer, so neither will ever be dealt with again in future... Their losses - not mine as well as the bad advertising issues for them...
Cheers

Re: SODIUM CAPTURE AR2896-97 22-11-2021
Terry, I didn't realise you were using a colour camera, do you use this for all your imaging?
I was wondering about the grain in your images and it shouldn't be there. If you are using a colour camera you are only using a quarter of your pixels in monochrome light. Have you got a mono camera you can use? you will find the results will give you a giant leap up in clarity.

Nice job Terry! Those spots are quite small and you have picked up the granulation as well.

Re: SODIUM CAPTURE AR2896-97 22-11-2021
Thanks Franco, Jacinto and James.
No Alexandra, the two mono ASI-178MM cameras remain in the main-obsy with the Ha and CaK scopes.
Altair seemed to have stop supporting the two Mono Altair GPCAM's, so with the allocated new professional laptop in the new observatory not being able to link-up with those Altair cameras.
So I have decided to use the ASI-120MC-S colour/mono camera which has been successfully used with Sodium from the main-obsy over two months ago, but with a decent telescope there as the new SW 'Esprit' 80ED. I could keep changing things around, but that often causes more problems than simply having to buy another camera from ZWO complete with the specially manufactured cable connector. - should it be necessary...
SharpCap allows for Mono8 imaging and more work is required to improve the technique...
