November 21st Ha Session

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

Sunday morning started off clear here with moderate seeing, so I went out to view/image before the forecast clouds made an appearance. The two AR's on the disk were not overly active, but the large number of filaments and proms certainly added to the Ha experience ;)

The first image is a FD Ha composite that was taken through the DS LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha and an ASI1600MM camera and 1.6x barlow:

My DS modded OTA was used to image the AR's, filaments, and proms in greater resolution. This system is comprised of the Orion EON 130, fitted with a pair of Lunt DSII etalons and a B1800Ha blocker. The camera was an ASI290MM and 1.3x barlow. The first images are AR2897 and AR2896 shown in mono, inverted, and colorized palettes:

The southern hemisphere contained all of the filaments, many of which showed a lot of structure:

I finished the session off by capturing images of the prominences...the most detailed ones were on the SE limb and the balance were fairly small.

My last capture was aimed at the NW limb as the clouds set in so this has very poor contrast

This covers the images from my latest session. I was able to work on the new observatory through the afternoon, and I am making slow progress on it...though progress it is  Cold and windy today with rain and snow squalls limiting more work, but I may take a few days of holiday time to work on it this week on clear days.

Thanks and take care,
Brian

Brian,
This is a truly outstanding set of images. Images 5, 6 and 7 show the mottles looking a bit " roughed up ". Image 10 is absolutely beautiful!! And I love how you have partially eclipsed some of the images.

Two thumbs up!!

James and Eric...

Thanks to each of you for your comments on the images :bow

James, I blacked out the over exposed portion of the chromosphere but didn't take it to eh limb since there was still details present. I agree it looks like an eclipse ;)

An excellent session, Brian, with great results. Beautifully captured filaments, proms and close views of the active regions.
