November 23 2021 Observations
Session time is from 16:05 until 16:46 UTC. Clear skies with just below average seeing. The temperature is a cold 36F ( 2.2C )
Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
The most noticeable objects on the Ha solar disc is the two dark filaments in the southern hemisphere. The largest of these looks like an open-mouthed worm complete with feet!
There are 4 visible disturbances in the chromosphere today. Only one is easy to see and it's a new one in the SE quadrant that is visible as a plage. AR12896 in the SW is visible but takes a close look to see. AR12897 in the NW is only slightly easier. Both appear as low contrast plages. I also see a slight disturbance in the chromosphere in the NE near the limb. It's northern extremities contain a single fairly easy filament.
As far as prominences go the easiest and most detailed one I can see in double-stack is on the SE limb. I can see a couple of voids in it. I see another without too much difficulty on the NE limb that shows some mottling. The rest are fainter and the GONG CT image shows more than I can see in double-stack.
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see four areas of disturbance on the solar photosphere. AR12896 in the SW and AR12897 in the NW appear only as single small spots. Nothing more. A new active region in the SE shows 4 tiny spots/pores to my eye. The SDO HMIc 2K image shows 5. I can see faculae surrounding them. I can also see a patch of faculae very close to the NE limb.
The fine granulation of the photosphere is visible today.
Today's music is The Handmaiden's Song by violinist Maurice Sklar.
Carpe Diem!
James

Re: November 23 2021 Observations
Nice report james, and nice to see pictures of the scopes.
I got up at 3.30am again this morning for a spot of mooning, but despite a forecast of clear skies it was foggy, hoping for more opportunities later in the week maybe... Keep these reports coming because I don't think i'll be seeing the sun for a while yet...

Re: November 23 2021 Observations
Be careful what you say Mark as that "mooning" could be taken other ways, albeit in the fog would at least be safer...

My scope setups are simple, but they work well for visual use. I am way overdue to image. I need to find the time and it's harder to do in the cold of winter. I envy you folks who have observatories!

Re: November 23 2021 Observations
Thanks for your report James, there will be no solar or dark sky imaging for me for a while,. We are in the midst of a La Nina which will last for at least 2 months. Right now we have been getting record rainfall, storms and a few tornados.

Alexandra, that picture was taken at Brisbane Airport, the clouds were too low to get a decent picture from my house. Funny thing is we weren't aware
that it was almost upon us till one of my sons rang up and told us. The twister missed us by about 3 miles.
