November 28 2021 Observations. WL only.
Session time is from 16:30 to 17:00 UTC. Intermittent. The skies are overcast with high thin clouds of varying opaqueness. The seeing seems average/fair. The temperature is 53F ( 11.6C )
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see a trio of easy spots in the SW quadrant. The easternmost one belongs to AR12898. It's umbra is divided into two unequal sized halves surrounded by an easy penumbra. High resolution SDO images show a three-part umbra! An arc of several small pores is seen to it's east. I see two other spots to the SW of AR12898. These belong to AR12900. These both sport irregular shaped umbrae surrounded by penumbrae. The westernmost spot is the largest. I can see a small number of pores between them. I can see the faculae to AR12899 almost on the SW limb. The only other active region is the new AR12901 in the far NE. It shows a small spot preceded by faculae.
Carpe Diem!
James

Re: November 28 2021 Observations. WL only.
Oh yes Sir, the Main-obsy is now more or less totally in the shade.
But good news is that it was an experimenting and training/teaching short-session today with beautiful clear skies, albeit a little turbulent and although very cold outside the mini-obsy (2-3-degsC.). So I played again with the Sodium, but without much further success (unless the 20+Gbytes of data still to be processed - shows more decent images).
But (and there's often a but) WL through the HW has proved successful thanks to Stu recommending trying high-frame captures and low stacking %.
So in a moment will publish just the one image at present, which during the taking and processing etc., I have tried various settings and gotten a useable image.
Taken a while, but it certainly does appear that I will have to take the better telescope and one of the mono 178 cameras from the main to the mini-obsy for Sodium capturing. Due to those colour-pixels of course)...
Mark T., also recommended Binning-2, but I didn't find that better this time for whatever reason.
When one gets to the retirement-stage and later, learning takes longer - I guess...
Cheers
Terry

I know what you mean, my summer observing site on the back deck is in the shade too. I now have to set up at the left side of the house or in the driveway to accommodate the much lower Sun this time of year.

Thanks for the report, I just had a quick session because it clouded.

Lovely to hear that you managed a WL solar fix James always better none (like me, just snow instead)

Re: November 28 2021 Observations. WL only.
Sounds about right James (moving with the times).
I used to do quite a bit of outside observing-mainly, but that was when I was a tad younger, as the cold-air at night or sometimes days is not what I like.
The mini-obsy (and the main one too) cater for that cold very well as has been experienced for the last two days with barely just above freezing temps in the days...
Keep safe, well and warm...
Terry

Re: November 28 2021 Observations. WL only.
Terry, Ivan and Alexandra,
I tolerated the cold and snow much better in my younger days. Cold nights at the telescope would not deter me. Now I am not as eager to do so. At least solar observing is not as cold as nighttime observing usually is!!
James.
