Hi Stephen, how do you manage 6 telescopes, 100 kids and to fly a drone at the same time? Does the FAA even allow that kind of multitasking?

By the way was that a DJI? It's got a really nice gimble, whatever it is.

The use of drones is a way cool method of documenting outreach and something that appeals to the student too. What model are you using Stephen?

Such an interesting perspective to use a drone-cam. Nice event, Stephen.

this is the DJI Phantom 2 Vision +.

It has a 3 axis gamble and is far superior to the non-gimbaled AEE AP10 Turok that i tried out first.

lol..100 kids? try 300-1000 kids at a normal event. :) How do I do it? I am quite clearly obsessed with teaching science and perhaps a little mad. :)

The drone seems to add a great deal of excitement to the event and the kids want to be involved.

I have tried several ways to get a drone transit or a movie of the drone hovering in front of the Sun in H-Alpha or CaK but even at 1000 feet, it is far too close to the scope to get a focussed image of the drone and the Sun. I will master it somehow though.

Those guys in the Faroe Islands needed a drone to get above the fog. It was a bit of a waste there otherwise. Put a drone on the checklist for the next eclipse. By 2017, Andy Lunt will have a solar drone, right Stephen?
