Season's Geomagnetic Activity

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi All,

In spite of a relatively quiet Sun at the moment, Earth was struck by three Geoeffective solar events over the last three days, starting on Christmas Eve with a mild CME.

This sparked beautiful Aurora and this one poignantly in the shape of an angel was captured by a friend of mine in Norway https://www.flickr.com/photos/kaimp/159 ... otostream/

Then on Christmas night the magnetic environment became unsettled, probably as a result of fast flowing solar wind, rather than a CME impact.

Then last night the Geomagnetic environment became unsettled once again. No CME's were expected and this again is probably as a result of a fast flowing wind stream.

This was recorded using my hi-res (1-second) magnetometer, as opposed to the others which were recorded at 2.5 minute intervals. This provides much finer detail, but takes a lot of number crunching.

Thanks for looking.

Have a wonderful 2015 everyone.

Stu.

Great set of data Stu - fascinating to match the geomagnetic data to visual observations.
My Bat 5 is on its way so must re-read your pdf and get ready to have a play :-)

How wonderful to live in Norway and be able to see that on Christmas eve!

Amazing data Stu :bow2

I wish you a geomagnetically active 2015
