30July2015 PZ SHG images.

Hello Everyone.

An opportunity for a relatively intensive SHG workout on July 30! I was able to image in CaII K (393.37 nm), CaI g (422.7 nm), H beta (486.13 nm), HeD3 (587.56 nm) and H alpha (656.28 nm) with a bandpass of about 0.2 Angstroms.

First, I present CaII K (393.37 nm), HeD3 (587.56 nm) and H alpha (656.28 nm) in comparison with images from the KIS ChroTel telescope (HeD3 is compared with the ChroTel He 1083 nm image):

Next, a comparison of a blue-wing CaII K image with the CaI g-line image. The CaI line is quite narrow so there is a significant contribution to the image from the wings of this line, hence, more of a photospheric image, as you get in the wings of the CaII K line.

Next, a comparison of H alpha with H beta. The proms, separately processed, have been added. There doesn't seem to be much of a similarity between H alpha and H beta but that changes if you image in the wings of the H alpha line. The NSO - SOLIS images in H alpha are generated in the line core and in the line wings. The "wings" image is very similar to H beta. Here's the link to these images:

(I wasn't careful enough with my exposures to be able to image in the H alpha wings.)

Finally, three "spectral series" showing images taken at slightly different wavelengths within an absorption line. The numbers in each frame are the wavelength displacements from the line centre (judged by eye and designated by the "0.00"). Positive (negative) numbers indicate a red (blue) shift.

(The prominence study is interesting. There is a substantial component of this CaII prominence which is receding from us (red shifted with respect to line centre).)

All can say is I was thrilled to look through these, the CaK prom is fascinating, the Hbeta I have always thought looks like offband Halpha :)

Thought I'd upload a compilation picture of the above posts .... six faces of the Sun.
It emphasizes a major attraction of spectroheliography ... easy imaging at multiple wavelengths.
