G2 Geomagnetic Storm

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi all,

A moderate G2 storm is in progress, although subsiding after an overnight display of aurora for those lucky enough to see these things. The cause was a tip in the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) towards the south, opening up cracks in the magnetosphere and allowing charged particles in the solar wind to enter our atmosphere around the poles.

Here is my magnetometer record of the event.

I was hoping for more action from AR2403, but this now seems less likely.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.
