13April SHG images: Sol in 4 lights.

Post by p_zetner »

As promised, a few more images from my 13Apr observing session. The lovely AR12529 still front and centre!
(H beta is a little "ratty" as I, once again, was not careful about centering this spectral line in the field of view. Extra processing was required to compensate for very bad exposure.)
More data to process yet, so stay tuned.

Cheers.
Peter.

Superb Peter! I'd love to see some 'sodium suns' if you can at any point. Very curious to see what is possible at this wavelength as it is within the passband of my HaT ERF. Daystar make a Na filter...

Mark,
You'll probably find it's cheaper to build a "multi-wavelength", "multi-bandwidth" SHG than buy a dedicated Na filter!! ;-)

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

Mark: There's a sodium image here http://solarchat.natca.net/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=18063.

Truth be told, this image was taken slightly off band where,
I'm presuming, the Doppler effect played a role in the observed surface mottling. At the moment, I'm working up my 13April sodium data to produce a surface dopplergram. Unless you're working with a very narrow bandpass, I'd expect the sodium image to look like a continuum, white light image. I don't think that the Daystar filter offers such a narrow bandpass.

Cheers.
Peter.
