The quicker you can get the data the less likely something will go wrong, a moment of bad seeing, wind shaking the instrument (shouldn't happen if it's made properly, but..), a bird flying through, clouds, etc.
Observing the Sun with complex optical systems since 1966, and still haven't burned, melted or damaged anything.
Not blind yet, either!

As Joe says, the faster we can generate a spectroheliogram the better.
In the digital SHG it really comes down to the speed of the camera (fps) and the ability to store the amount of download data quickly.
The SHG I'm working on will use an ASI174 mono capable of up to 400 fps (when used on USB3 and SSD drive).
This then gives the potential of capturing a whole disk image in about 4 sec....ie 4 x 400 = 1600 pixel wide image.
Rather than use the mount slewing speeds I intend to incorporate a nodding mirror in front of the slit plate which can scan the disk in 4 sec.
