Kp5 Geomagnetic Storm

Post by Carbon60 »

With my magnetometer out of action for a while and an ever quietening Sun, it seems like ages since I last posted any magnetometer data.

Yesterday Earth was struck by a modest geomagnetic storm (Kp5) no doubt sparking beautiful aurora for those lucky enough to be at favourable latitudes and without cloud cover. The source was a stream of particles comprising the solar wind, released through a large coronal hole in the Sun's outer atmosphere and travelling at speeds in excess of 560km/sec.

The comparison with professional data looks pretty good. I'm glad to say my magnetometer is back up and running fine.

Thanks for looking.

:hamster: :hamster: :beanie: great catch Stu and pretty much an exact match too, I look forward to more reports :D I wish we could have some clear skies, I've still never seen noctilucent clouds yet in my life and time is running out again for this year.

That's a great result Stu! You've got that system finely tuned to get such correlation with the professionals.
