so I tried it came out as described in text "flocculi show up as veined streaks"
could use Wah! image capabilities to clean up a bit

Re: neutral calcium 4227
Here's a comparison from smoky Northern California, with correspondingly poor conditions:
Ca 4227 Ha Overall transparency is less than 80%, with lots of scatter.

Observing the Sun with complex optical systems since 1966, and still haven't burned, melted or damaged anything.
Not blind yet, either!
Light pollution? I only observe the Sun, magnitude -26.74. Pollute that!

Cool - cleaner images , verifies same heated area
in past there was some study of this wavelength

Re: neutral calcium 4227
I thought I had Menzel's "Our Sun"......
When I checked it's actually "The Sun, Our Star" a 1982 complete update of Menzel by R.W. Noyes.
The paper mentioned was published in 1935....it certainly shows us how technology has moved forward in our favour.....things are much easier today.

Re: neutral calcium 4227
John,
That looks like one of the early 1st edition copies - 1949?
(I have all the other 1st Edition Harvard Series.... I would buy a copy of Menzel for the collection but the postage rates are a killer!!)
