If this works out you should see an animated gif of the sun made from a series of SDO-AIA images through 28 days of September (one full solar rotation).
Animated SDO-AIA Images through 28 days September 2016 by Stuart Green, on Flickr
I've inverted the view so as to emphasise the large coronal hole (in white), rotating with the Sun and persisting through the revolution. Fast flowing solar wind emerging from this coronal hole generated G1/G2 solar storms at the beginning and towards the end of September on both occasions as the coronal hole swept past. The local magnetic disturbance resulting from the impact of solar particles on our magnetic protective bubble were detected and recorded on my magnetometer, as shown below as 'rate of change'.
For now things have calmed down again, but if the hole persists for another revolution then 'stormy (space) weather' could be in store in a few days time. Anyone planning a trip to Earth's aurora regions might like to take note
Thanks for looking.
Stu.

This is excellent Stu! It shows that coronal hole really well.

Re: Geomagnetic Summary September 2016
What a great animation! it really shows the Sun has sides and not all the activity is evenly distributed. So when we have spots we have no aurora and vice versa at the moment, opposite to solar maximum when spots = aurora

Re: Geomagnetic Summary September 2016
Many thanks, Mark & Alexandra. It certainly confirms that we don't necessarily require CMEs to generate geomagnetic activity. A nice big coronal hole does just fine.

All my Icelandic aurora in august were caused by coronal holes, and they were some of the best ones i've seen.
