October Geomagnetic Summary

Post by Carbon60 »

October has been a fabulous month for aurora (not that I've been in a position to see anything), but fast flowing solar wind from coronal holes and a glancing CME have created between them some wonderful G1-G2 and solar storms (one peaking at G3).

My magnetometer runs 24/7 and captures everything throughout the year. Here is a summary for October with these storms clearly evident when plotted as 'rate of change' of magnetic flux density in the East-West direction between readings (every 2.5 minutes).

Solar activity might be on the decline as far as Active Regions are concerned, but coronal holes seem to be on the rise.

Thanks for looking.

Excellent record there Staurt! I was talking about your magnetometer results at Walsall Astro society in the week, we also noted that as solar activity declines then coronal holes seem more abundant.

That's a phenomenal month! I hope that hole comes round again and we have some clear skies :hamster: :bow

Hi Alexandra, hopefully they'll keep coming around ;) clear skies would be a bonus. :) :)

Thanks for the mention, Mark. Hopefully it was of interest to the society.
