Passing CME- Geomagnetic Response

Post by Carbon60 »

Last weekend, magnetised plasma from a CME brushed past Earth's magnetic field creating geomagnetic fluctuations detectable on magnetometers at ground level. The resulting solar storm produced beautiful aurorae and significant reductions in Earthbound cosmic rays, as reported on Spaceweather.com

Here are my magnetometer data recorded over a 10 day period leading up to and throughout the geomagnetic storm. The effect of the impact is plain to see, as the 'rate of change' data show.

More activity to come as Earth is entering a new solar wind stream originating at a large polar coronal hole.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.
