Hi folks,
Rotating into view just a few days ago, the solar wind from the indicated coronal hole has arrived causing geomagnetic unrest, which I was able to record on my magnetometer here in the UK.
The instrument is running 24/7 throughout the year. Here is the record for August which includes the previous passage of this coronal hole back on the 5th. As you might expect for solar minimum, there has been very little activity between these events during the month.
At the time of writing this, the event is still in progress, so if you are located at a high enough latitude with clear skies tonight you might be in for a treat.
Thanks for looking.
Stu.

Nice record Stu. Looks like the CH has a rotation period of about 25 days, expect it again geo-effective mid twenty something of September. Looks like it will be too early for Iceland at the end of October. Oh well!

Maybe another one will open up. Looking at the AIA data on SpaceWeather.com it all looks a bit 'open' to the east of this one, so this is likely to rumble on for a few days this time and the next time around. We can only hope.

Some further data from overnight, plotted spanning the last 2.5 days.
Apparently it was a good night for aurora spotting for those lucky enough to be in the right place.

Just being sat in a fast flowing stream will do me. Aurora or not it's just nice to be out in dark none light polluted skies when we're out there, it's always nice to check out the winter constellations in the early morning sky in October.

Hi Stuart...
I was wondering if you were catching an increase in the effects in your backyard setup. Thanks for posting.

Very interesting data Stuart and good luck Mark, you never know with aurora as they can be so unpredictable even with the best forecasting. When we went to Norway it was forecast to be kp1 or kp2 and we suddenly had a lovely display.
