Geomagnetic Activity 31st March 2020

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi all,

The Sun might be very quiet visually, but there's still activity detectable right here on Earth and from our own backyards. All you require is a magnetometer.

Here's my report out to SpaceWeather.com for the current event:

The predicted solar wind from a coronal hole arrived on March 30th at about 18:00 UT according to my magnetometer here in the UK. This coincided with periods of a southerly oriented interplanetary magnetic field carried by the wind, opening cracks in our protection, and was preceded by a period of milder unrest 18 hours earlier as shown in the chart.

I hope you find this interesting.

BTW my monthly reports are available on the British Astronomical Association's website on their solar section/magnetometry.

Thanks for looking

Stu.
