Hi Gus
usually there is an arrow on the edge of the filter which should face the sun. In the worst case, you have only two trials to find out while imaging

Re: Lunt ERF question.
Thanks Walter, just had a look and could see no arrow. As i do not image, what other way to test-does it matter which side faces sun- is it safe to try visually both ways.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Lunt ERF question.
Yes, either way will be 100% safe.
If there's a coated reflective surface...this should face the sun , to prevent heat build up in the glass.

Re: Lunt ERF question.
Thanks Merlin, Lunt site says one side broadband AR coated and other side dielectric IR blocking coated.Looked at filter and noticed one side is deep red and other side slightly less red, with a tint of purple.Would it be safe to say the redder side is broadband AR coated.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Lunt ERF question.
Hi, in my opinion the slightly purple side should face the sun, this should be the IR coating. My ERF has a similar colour and has always been that way round as advised by Schotts when purchased. Hope this helps, John.
