Ha PST mod. Need your help.

Post by Valery »

Hi modders,

Today I get a very old PST Ha for modding (for my friend's 100mm F/10 refractor).
I tried to test the PST as is, but the sun looks red-orange and featureless. I saw only a one single sun spot like in white light. So, no Ha details at all.
The sun also looks dim.

What I see:

1. The objective has light blue reflection but also a brown color back side and this looks totally rusted.

2. The blocking filter (5mm) is not really red if to look through - more like orangish-yellowish with some greenish.

3. Pentaprism is yellowish if to look through.

But this is not the problem. The problem, and I need your advice, is that I can't unscrew the gold tube from the etalon body.
Anybody already solved such a problem and if yes, what your advice how to do this right without lenses and etalon damage?

Any link with pictures?

Thanks in advance.

Valery.

I found that after failing by applying constant pressure I succeeded by applying a sudden jolt. Not by hitting it but by just suddenly aaplying the pressure. It did take a couple of tries though.

The problem is solved. The etalon block has been removed successfully.
Will need to make some adapters for making Mod stage 2 with 100mm F/10 refractor.
Hope that my friend will be happy with this mod 2.

Thanks to all.

Valery.

After I removed the etalon from the PST, I have spent some time for making the extention tube.
So, the black box now rests somewhere in a dust. I do use my Coronado BF10 as the blocking filter.

Hi VAlery

you did not tell us what the solution was to unscrew the PST Etalon ;)

1. Use a vise engine
2. Clamp an old drive belt (from a car motor) in the vise
3. Put the etalon body in the loop of the belt and clump all very firmly.
4. Rotate the telescope tube counter-clockwise with some fair force - it unscrew then.
