Quark and suitable scope

Post by axlefoley »

I have my Quark mounted on a TS 50mm Doublet APO Refractor 50/330mm f/6.6 - Day/Night Scope and I'm getting awesome full disc views with 40mm eyepiece.

I'm wanting to increase the aperture to 80mm and thinking this scope (below) would work, it's 80/400 F5 but unsure if I will still get a full disc.

Any thoughts would be welcomed.

I use an 80mm f7.5 skywatcher, and the views are awesome. No, you can't get full disk anymore but the increased aperture means you're much more interested in the closer views rather than the overviews...

Got this back from Daystar just now.

Alan,

Jen Winter - Owner here.

Glad to see the filter is working well.
That scope should work just perfectly for you to pass full disc.
I think we will try to get one in ourselves because the 80mm F/5 just about perfectly fits the focal length for best viewing.

Clear skies,
jen

Hi Alan,
with my 80/480 and the Quark I can view the full disc with a 40mm Plossl, just up to the border, so a little bit difficult.

Play in the sunshine, we're gonna get over !!

The 80/400 Opticstar turned up today so I quickly stuffed the Quark on it but couldn't get focus so I added a extension tube still no focus so added another ex tube still no focus.

Might take a bit of time tomorrow and not be in such a hurry.

The scope looks awesome.

Pics will come when I get it sorted.

Thanks Gus, really good news about the SM90 and all thanks to Gary Pierson at Anacortes.

After 18 months Meade has supplied me with a new SM90, at present it is sitting in Gary's office waiting to post it to Ken ( Merlin66 ) in Melbourne to test it and refit it to my scope but he is in Ireland on holidays at the moment.

When I finally get it back in my hands I will tell the whole story from the day I purchased it.

Thanks Mark & Walter, can't wait for my new SM90 to be posted to Ken who will test it then send it on to me.
I am going to upgrade the postage insurance from America to Australia so if anything goes wrong it will be fully covered.
Postage has cost me a fortune for the faulty SM90 they sent me 18 months ago so another $150 - $200 for full cover I think is a good investment.
Kens going to do me a Bresser 100/1000 PST mod if he ever gets back from holidays.
