ERF choice: new D-ERF vs. used C-ERF vs. other

Post by bluecoast »

Hello,

New here. I have a couple of PSTs and want to mod one into an 80mm scope I have (Vixen A80MF).

I found a used C-ERF 70mm which I'd have to mount down the tube. I have some basic questions:

Is Baader D-ERF superior to C-ERF? The same size new D-ERF is about 2x the price.
Is objective mounting superior to down-the-tube? For a start, I like the idea of being able to see the ERF.

Are there other 80-90mm ERF options out there that are safe (even if inferior) at a lower cost?

Thank you!

Yes, DERF is superior to CERF. Objective mounting superior to sub aperture mounting, but will work.

Welcome ‘Bluecoast’. Best to pay the price, get a full size DERF and front mount it.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I'll resolve to pay the price for the 90mm D-ERF. Is there any source to consider aside from Baader?
