100DS - Modified Quark using 2" 35nm ERF.
Hi,
I decided I needed more light pushing through my Quarks to make the image brighter and more contrasty.
Based on the 60DS I decided to use my Macro lens reducer technology I use on my night-time scopes.
To make a Celestron/Skywatcher 102mm F5 look to the 4.2x Quark like the 60DS lens.
First is a 2" 35nm Baader filter as the ERF. Provably by calculation and measurement the best to protect your blocking filter and get lowest etalon temperature, without additional narrower band filters of course.
48 to 49mm step up ring.
A 49mm 3 Dioptre (-300mm) macro lens, to big to fit through well made 2" focussers.
49 to 48mm step down ring.
48 to T2 step down.
Short T2 extender.
These push into the front of the removed 2" ring.
Baader T2 diagonal screwed on the T2 extender through the 2" ring.
2" ring screwed back onto the draw tube.
Two lock screws just grip the T2 ring. Make sure the T2 diagonal is snug to the 2" ring.
Short T2 1.25" eyepiece holder.
Counting tiles on a roof before and after get a 0.61x reduction. Target 0.7x.
Put in Chromosphere Quark 4.2x with no filter on 1.25" nosepiece.
Should be brighter with a Prominence.
Just reach focus on the Sun with 1/4! to spare!
Caculate Suns image just under 13mm diameter.
A lovely view of todays big prom late on in the day. 25mm Clave' Plossl. Tried a 16mm EFF eyepiece, a bit soft.
A pleasing result.

I do not like cloud storage where when you open up they insist on synching all your images, like you are an avid social media poster.
Slowing things down.
Is there a suitable site where you can manually Post an image and thats it?
Hi Brian,
100DS is a play on the name of the Daystar DS60 product.
I am putting a 102mm F5 with a 0.6x reducer as it happens on the front of a 4.2x Quark.
The reducer roughly replicates the focal length of the 60mm lens infront of the DS60 smaller output Quark and I use my stand alone Quark after the reduced telescope.
I have found that DG modern Macro achromat lenses work well as focal reducers usually inside the telescope drawtube.
I adapt the camera size threads on the Macro lens to M48/2" threads. And then using an extension tube through the 2" holder on the draw tube screw the Macro lens inside the drawtube/telescope.
I can get about 0.7x reduction with sufficient back focus.
The aim is to make the image brighter to compensate for the circular polariser inside the Quark used to cut down reflections.
And it seemed to work. A cross between the flat uniform red quark and a more contrasty PST mod.
Tomorrow I am going to try something 'naughty'.

It's fine to upload images here if they're small file size, sometimes we get direct uploads etc from a camera memory card for example, and then end up with a huge file size for an image that's only displayed 800px wide.
