July 27 2021 AR2849 2846 Ha C11

Post by LeoD »

Hi all,
I had 2 hours on Tuesday to try out hires imaging. From the very beginning, the seeing was not for the selected aperture, but after an hour of waiting hopefully the light wind appeared and SSM started to drop below 1".
The only 2 AR's I was managed to capture in the next half hour.
Setup: Aries ERF+C11+Quark+reducer+174mm.
thanks for looking
Leo

Excellent images despite the seeing, Leo! Keep them coming.

BTW
The seeing here was not so poor as one can imagine looking at the images on the present stage of their processing. These images sure consist more details than an eye can see at this stage of their processing. In the science there is a rule: to bring out all the details, the image must show some amount of noise. And if to tolerate a bit more of noise, one probably can extract additional details. So, I took the liberty to process these images a little bit further with an intention to extract possibly still hidden details. And yes, this rule does work! Now we can conclude that such a seeing still allows to get better images than this looks at a first glance.

Thanks everyone for replies, much appreciated!

Valery, feel free, I'd be really pleased to see your processing posted here. I stacked 500/8000 frames this time, I think it's possible to reduce SNR even more, isn't it?

Alexandra, now you're very well armed with SS, the great seeing will come for sure! I don't say the seeing was poor, I'm just collecting patience/luck statistics using SSM :D
