Hi,
Does anyone know or has used an Atik 314L+ mono for solar H-alpha imaging ? It has 6.46 micron pixels, is a cooled camera. I do not know its FPS for getting videos, but it does work with SharpCap.
Any advice and info would be appreciated.
I would be using it with a short focus refractor at 420mm and 70mm size refractor and a Quark Chromosphere.
I acquired it second hand for possible RGB or narrowband imaging of deep sky targets.
Many thanks.
Magnus

Re: Atik 314L+ mono camera for solar imaging ??
Hi,
i would say this camera is not at all suitable for solar imaging. Its based on a CCD chip and seems very limited in regard of image download speed / short time exposure capabilities.

I don't know much (anything?) about the camera so why not just try it if you've already bought it?

As Mark says - you've already got it, give it a try.
~25 years ago, people were getting great shots with a Meade 1616XT and 40mm Coronado filter.

Yes, but why going back 30 years if there are (relatively) affordable and suitable cameras that will just give the success and motivation. I also dont understand why it is still a thing to use DSLR cameras on solar system objects.
Im sure the Atik 314L will give good deep sky results though.
